Jackson ... Rooted in History ... Modern in Industry

Jackson, Michigan...Where cars first started!

Jackson, Michigan was home to twenty-five car manufacturers from 1901 to 1954. In fact, one of the very first automobiles in the U.S. was created in 1897 when Jackson resident, Coe S. Reeves attached a motor, three bicycle tires and a gas pipe from a carriage body in his motor shop on Pearle Street. This was 10 years before Henry Ford introduced his first Model T!

Our 'Commercial Exchange Building' (2301 E. Michigan) also contributed to early transportation as the home of The Collins Cart and the Jackson Automobile Co and the Jackson Automotive Company.

Creative Inspiration!

In 1928, our 'Commercial Exchange Building' was purchased by William (Captain) Sparks for the Sparks-Withington Co., makers of some of the first decorative radios and televisions.

Captain Sparks found his 'space' in our front offices (Fireplace Room) and spent many long hours planning his indelible signature landmark on Jackson - The famous man-made waterfalls, The Cascades.
